As one of Scotland’s largest children’s charities, Action for Children believe it is our responsibility and honour to sign up to and support the National Trauma Training Programme Leadership Pledge. Action for Children run 87 services throughout Scotland, our 800 staff support and care for more than 20,000 children, young people, and their families. We have a bold and ambitious vision that every child and young person in the country should have a safe and happy childhood and the foundations they need to thrive. We are also grounded by our values which state we are Passionate, Ambitious, Collaborative, and Inclusive, we firmly believe that being trauma informed lives up to these values. We pledge to continue to value those with lived experience of trauma this includes being part of our workforce but also the people we care for. We will strive to ensure there is mutual learning, understanding, respect and above all trust across the organisation. We have already started on this journey we are proud that we have over 140 staff members who we have previously supported within our services. Action for Children is committed to invest in and promote staff training and staff wellbeing which is trauma informed. We will ensure that these are regularly assessed so they remain relevant and meet the needs of our staff. Our service provision will always be based on the needs of children, young people, and their families, many of whom have experienced trauma. They will be at the heart of their service design and ongoing improvements. We will be open to develop and enhance our evaluation and monitoring systems so that they capture the needs and views of those that have experienced trauma. We will offer to take a lead to join with others in sharing best practice.
